Hacking 101

Hacking is normally defined as the act of gaining access to a computer illegally. However, I see hacking differently.

To me hacking is the art of discovering what is behind the smoke and mirrors. This could be anything where the more trained people try to hide what they are doing using excuses like:
  • "It's unique and changes all the time"

  • "It's complicated; no one know how it really works"

  • "There is no standard; but, this will work"

  • etc.
This happens in Sales, Management, Computer technology and most professions where some one has something to gain by not letting everyone know how simple things really are.

My goal here is to break the mirrors and blow away the smoke so you can tell how things are done. I'll try keep it simple and show all the links I used when researching the information I provide.

Freeware Warring

Although I use freeware, shareware and retail software. I highly recommend  purchasing a supported version once you find a product you feel will suite your needs.

As with all programmers the goal of writing software is to get compensated, normally with money. Therefore, most if not all freeware will have annoying 'pop-up' reminders when you exit them to remind you of what you are not getting and others will attempt to get you to install 'tool bars' in your browser or other sponsored software to allow them to get some compensation.

Luckily you (normally) will have an option to not install these extra software options. ;-)
